The Melayu Boleh YB Profesor Datuk Dr. Mazlan was born on 11th December 1951 in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. She is married to another Melayu Boleh Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Kommo and having two children which are Adi Johan Salehuddin dan Elida Izani. Her early education started at Kolej Tunku Kurshiah until 1963. After that, she furthers her study at University of Otago, New Zealand in astrophysics. She started to work at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) as a Melayu Boleh tutor in 1975 and after that as lecturer after she received her PhD in astrophysics from University of Otago in 1981. She is the first Melayu Boleh female who was doing the course in astrophysics on that time.
In 1990, she worked at Jabatan Perdana Menteri (Prime Minister Office) lead the Planetarium Section. Her major duty at Bahagian Kajian Sains Angkasa is to expand the issues of universe. Later, she worked as Head Director at Bahagian Kajian Sains Angkasa around 1992 until 1999. She had been appointed as Astrophysics Professor from UKM in 1994. During her duty as Head Director at Bahagian Kajian Sains Angkasa, she had been given a job to lead our Microsatellites which are Tiung-SAT 1 and RazakSAT. (On that time, I still remember the Made in Malaysia cartoon TiongMan). She had written two books which are Teaching Aids in Physics Education’, Astronomi Sezaman Fajar Bakti as the publisher (1987), and The Power of Water-A Malaysia Odyssey (1997).

She had been awarded Pingat Khidmat Cemerlang from Jabatan Perdana Menteri in 1994. In 1996 she had been given Anugerah Wanita Cemerlang Tan Sri Fatimah-Avon in education field. One year later in 1997, again she received Panglima Jasa Negara (P.J.N) which give her as ‘Datuk’. In 1998, during the Jubli Emas Persatuan Murid-murid Tua Maktab Perempuan Melayu Kolej Tunku Kurshiah, she had been honored Anugerah Tokoh Emas and in July 2003 she had been awarded as Tokoh Saintis Khas from Centre for Intellectual Promotion and Technological Advacenment ( CIPTA ).
